This is our mini donkey Sara. She has been a member of the Refuge for many years. When she came to us she was seriously underweight and was missing most of her coat. With care and love, she has become one of our most cherished donkeys and, until recently, was our go-to donkey for interaction with the public. Shirley described her as "bomb-proof" as she remained so calm even when groups of noisy children all wanted to pat her at the same time. She has been retired now but still enjoys the her hugs and pats from her human family.
The first year she was with us she wore a sheep-skin blanket to keep her warm while her hair grew in. Now she is as fuzzy as they come.
I love Sara and I think she may end up being the main character in our next Donkey Refuge children's book which may be out this summer if all the stars align.
Be sure to ask about her when you visit the Refuge this summer.
