Hello Everyone. It has been a crazy few weeks for the Refuge and for me as well. Saturday was a Work Day at the Refuge so Kay, Paul, Darren, Jill, Laura, Marion, Shirley, Rob and I worked our donkeys off. The men put up lighting in the main barn with a little help from Mikey and Rosie who tried very hard to knock Darren off the ladder several times.
The girls cleaned the Donkey Shoppe and the storage areas and even pushed the beautiful buggy into its winter spot in the back of the Shoppe. It looks beeeautiful in there now.
We were treated to an amazing luncheon put on by Shirley. The nine of us started out eating together but when the women started chatting and giggling, the men quickly disappeared. I don't blame them as I think the bunch of us laughed louder than the donkeys can bray. Seriously, I don't think I have laughed so hard in years. As Laura says - "I love donkey people!"
Earlier last week Laura and I helped Rob and Shirley move the herds to their winter lodging. In the winter the donkeys spend much more time inside as they do not do snow, cold and wind very well. The mini donkeys are where they originally were, as are the special needs donkeys. The mammoths are in the new barn and the standards are in the Sady side of the main barn. George is still on his own but up at the new barn now. Annie and Socrates are in with the special needs donkeys and that seems to be working really well. The two newest minis, Kaatje and Gerrit are in the mini herd and are doing great. Mikey, our newest rescue is in the barn as he needs some extra care and hugs to feel secure in his new home.
Now, for the other info - the Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge Society's very first book, Hope For Chance, arrived and we have already sold over 50 copies. I am so pleased as this little project is dear to my heart. The books are on the Refuge website in the on-line store along with a really kind Blog about the book and yours truly.
Isn't life wonderful? Wishes can be fulfilled, and dreams can come true. Just Ask Me. And thank you to everyone for your support of the Refuge. Your caring and kindness allows us to continue to rescue and care for donkeys in distress.
