No it's not, but I couldn't think of a title for this post so thought I would just make something up. Actually, every day is Donkey Refuge Appreciation Day. Anyway.....
Yesterday someone posted the following on facebook:
Respect yourself enough
To walk away from
Anything
That no longer
Serves you, grows you,
Or makes you
Happy
I printed that little gem and stuck it to the wall right beside my computer. And it caused me to think about the people, obligations and activities in my life.
I thought about things I have been doing for years and years, not because I enjoy them or want to continue but because of commitments I made that I can't seem to break free of even though they no longer serve me, or grow me, or make me happy.
But then I thought about the activities and obligations that fill the biggest part of my time. My husband, my family and a few very close friends, and, my commitment to the mission and the volunteers (Rob and Shirley included) of the Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge and realized that the little posting above, for me, should read:
Respect yourself enough
To run willingly toward
Anything
That serves you, grows you
Or makes you
Happy.
Ah, much better. If you can do that, you will do what is best for you and all the rest will eventually fall away - as the true value of that person, obligation or activity is revealed.
I know - "Where's the donkey part of this posting?" Ummm - every day spent at the Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge gives me joy. Working on the bookkeeping or the newsletter, or crocheting little donkeys to donate to the Donkey Shoppe, gives me joy. Every day I learn something new about donkeys or charity or life itself, and that gives me joy.
Right now, my involvement with the Refuge and its wonderful residents serves me, grows me and makes me HAPPY. So as I run willingly toward that part of my life, I realize that I do truly respect myself.
Just in case this post doesn't seem "donkey" enough, here is a picture of our wonderful donkey,
HAPPY
Ba-zinga! TTYL
