HAPPY AND GEORGE
I thought that yesterday when I got home after the day at
the Refuge, my only news would pertain to our two new donkeys that joined us on
Monday. And so here I am with a brief post about our newbies.
Happy is a
lovely 28 year old small standard (see earlier post) with a gentle, friendly
demeanor. He is in with our special needs donkeys while he gets used to his new
home and mates.
George is a mammoth donkey - three years old and noisy and
naughty. He is by himself in a pen right now while he settles in and settles
down. He too is beautiful to look at. Chocolate brown with a white muzzle.
But, me thinks he may be a mule dressed up as a donkey. His hair is already
sleek while all the rest of the donkeys still look as though they had a bad day
with Edward Scissorhands. He paces and snorts like a horse. Hmmmm! The vet
will help us figure this out on Tuesday.
The contrast between our two newbies
is amazing. Looks like Happy will settle right in while George may have to
learn many social skills before he can be integrated with a herd.
EVEN
MORE AMAZING THAN OUR NEW DONKEYS WAS THIS ENTIRE PAST WEEK AT THE REFUGE. I
had to write a second post today to fully do justice to the power and joy of
being a volunteer for an organization that works quietly to make our world a
better place. Please see my next postS as I pay homage to two small group of
people that have made such a big difference for us.
