DONKEYS ENJOY THE BIG NEW BARN

Today we were at the new Refuge to .... again.....work on setting up a good camera system in the barn.  What a treat to see the donkeys indoors.  All of them except Kiki who appeared to be enjoy some time to himself in the paddock.  With lots of room to spare.  Thanks to the excellent design of the barn, there is lots of light and protection from the wind, rain and snow.  The donkeys were happy to have company although today was farrier day so they got to visit with Jim.  He trims and cares for 10 sets of donkey hoofs each week so by the time he does one full cycle - 7 or so weeks, it is time to start all over again.  Thanks to his skill and experience, most of our donkeys have healthy hooves.  Others have chronic hoof problems due to lack of care earlier in their lives but even then, Jim has them trotting around, as pain free as is possible.
A little secret that helps their hooves - teatree oil.  Uh-huh.  He puts a little dab of the oil on each hoof and swears by it.
Too cute - love this photo and the sayings it brings to mind.

A few of the mini donkeys are all dressed up in plaid winter jackets.  They look so cute and don't they know it.  All of them are fuzzy now and look so cute.  Like 4 legged puff balls.
We were in the barn close to feeding time so when we went to leave there was a choir of brays shouting out their disappointment that we hadn't fed them.  Soon, children, soon.
Another lovely but chilly day with the donkeys.  Doesn't get much better than that!
Laura, Farrah could use a little "me" time with you.

  1. I could use a little Farrah time as well. Maybe you could let me know when you are going up to the refuge again.
