ALL IN THE FAMILY

Juanita and Pueblo, mother and son
Great Morning! To Everyone.

Let's have some fun today. Think of your own extended family for a moment and then read about our donkey "family".

We have 36 wonderful donkeys in our family - 8 mammoths, 15 standards and 13 miniature donkeys. There are 14 chocolate brown donkeys, 5 dun-gray donkeys, 3 white ones, 3 roan colored, 2 red spotted, 1 spotty cow colored and 8 others.
We have 16 jacks and 20 jennies. We have a jack named Jack and a jenny named Jenny. We have two boys named Tim and two named George.
There are 3 pairs of moms and sons, 1 mother-daughter duo,  1 father and daughter, 3 full sisters and two half brothers. Two others may be related but we aren't sure.
There are older donkeys, teenage donkeys and youngsters.
Four donkeys are being treated for hoof problems, two with deteriorating eye sight, several with dental issues of varying degrees, a few with heart issues and many with weight problems.
Two donkeys don't quite fit in just yet but they are trying. There are times when everyone gets along and other times - not so much.
And we honor 3 wonderful jennies that are no longer with us.

Just your typical family, don't you think?

  1. So true about the family dynamics in human life so it is with donkeys...some are easy going some want to belong and others want to boss while others want to just fit in. Some just don't want to be hurt any more....others think they are worth more attention.....but all in all they make a strong family at the refuge....Thanks to Rob and Shirley who make sure all feel loved and cared for.
