THANKSGIVING WEEKEND WITH THE DONKEYS

Hello Everyone - my apologies for not posting sooner.  It has been a crazy couple of weeks.  Lots of wonderful things have happened at the Refuge and there are more to come.
Last Saturday Rob, his granddaughter Bailey and his niece were at the Chatsworth Seniors Home in Kelowna, BC.   They took Hilda and Margherita with them and spent a lovely, and bountiful day with the seniors.  Rob and the girls sold memberships and merchandise and the Seniors had a garage sale and hotdog sale.  As always, our mini donkeys were a hit with the seniors and the shoppers.  Thank you to the Seniors and those of you who were able to attend the event and invest in the welfare of our wonderful donkeys.
We have had several special needs groups visit the Refuge in the past few weeks.  It is such a pleasure to see them interact with our donkeys.  It is particularly rewarding to see Donkey Magic at work - bringing out the best in everyone who was there.
However it is sad that not all of the special needs people in these groups are able to attend the Refuge due to our lack of a handi-accessible washroom.  Sooo.......I am busy working with Shirley and Rob to put together a grant application for the completion of the handi-accessible washroom, AGAIN!  We have tried and tried to get funding through the government programs and large corporations with absolutely no success.  We only need about $9,000 but it may as well be a million dollars as we just can't seem to get it.  Maybe this time.....fingers crossed.
Okay back to the good stuff.  This holiday weekend we are open from 11am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.  It is so beautiful in Turtle Valley right now with all the autumn colors.  Laura has done her magic with the harvest themed display and I am ready to make hot chocolate for our guests.  No popcorn this year - for me that is a good thing as my attention span is not sufficient to get the popcorn from kernels to yummy without wandering off and burning them.  The donkeys are getting fuzzied up and are missing all the visitors we had over the summer so please come out and give them hugs and scritches.
That's about it for now.  Oh - we are getting two more donkeys next week.  And our Donkey Refuge tote bags are available in our Shoppe now.  They are red like our membership T-shirts and have our logo in white on one side.
So it is back to the grant application - wish me luck.
Have a great rest of the week and try to make it out to see us on the weekend.
