Sundays At The Refuge Are Always Wonderful

Hello Everyone. I finally got to spend a Sunday at the Refuge. Even though it was raining in the Shuswap, it was absolutely perfect in the Turtle Valley. It is such a shame that there isn't a weather indicator for the Valley - I think that most people assume that a rainy day in Kamloops or Salmon Arm means a rainy day at the Refuge. Not so! Truth be told, even in the rain, the Refuge is a magical place to be. Some of the visitors on Sunday were treated to a few very special moments with Lady Bug and Sara. Kay and Paul had taken the donkeys for a walk and just before they were returned to pasture, they got some special pats. Sundays seem to be like that - special. Two of our visitors were teenaged girls from the Edmonton area who volunteered at a mini horse rescue in Sherwood Park, I believe. What lovely young ladies. It is so comforting to know that the future of animal welfare and care is in such competent hands. Wouldn't it be great to have a Refuge Teen Group to learn about donkeys and animal welfare. Hmmm!!! I got to host a few tours and also to help Rob change the dressing on Lillie's foot. She has an abcess on her front left foot so each day she has to have her foot cleaned and then treated with a green antiseptic liquid. Lillie was a very good girl even though the dressing change was quite painful. We were pleased to have four more people become members of the Refuge Society - four more stacks of pancakes to make at our Members Only Pancake Breakfast in September. Oh - put your thinking caps on - we have an indoor handicap accessible washroom and a septic tank. We need to connect the two of them so we're looking for a generous soul or company that would be willing to facilitate the installation in exchange for our gratitude and a tax receipt. Well, that's enough for tonight's posting. Hope everyone is enjoying this incredible weather. Come to the Refuge and hug a donkey - your heart will love you.
