The Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge Society is a 50 acre facility located at 7877 Skimikin Road in the Turtle Valley near Chase, BC. We are dedicated to rehabilitating and caring for unwanted, surrendered, abused and neglected donkeys. When donkeys are abused they require years of special care, costly vet and farrier work and years of love and devotion to heal the scars made by man. We are blessed to be able to facilitate this healing with love and care.

OUR DAY AT THE MALL
Laura and I spent last Saturday at the Aberdeen Mall in Kamloops in the community space provided at no charge by the Mall. Our table was located just inside the upper level entrance. The morning was fairly quiet with very few shoppers willing to stop and visit us. The afternoon was much more rewarding as we had several very enthusiastic shoppers stop by for information on Donkey Days and the Refuge in general. We received $45 in donations.
Ever the optimist, I had challenged myself to get 20 sponsors for our Donkey Days poster donkey, Kiki. Within a very short time after setting up our booth, we realized that we had our work cut out for us to promote and sell sponsorships and memberships. The shoppers were hurried and most either put their heads down and rushed by or pretended to window shop was they passed our area. I reminded myself that our primary purpose in setting up at the mall was to promote Donkey Days but in my heart I hoped we would be able to raise some badly needed funds for the Refuge.
Enter an angel in the form of my sister, Nancy. She and her sons sponsored Kiki ELEVEN times. ELEVEN!!! I had sponsored Kki to get things started so that made 12 of the 20 sponsorships that I had challenged myself to get. A friend of my sister also sponsored Kiki so there were 13 sponsorships in total - short of the 20 I had hoped for but so WONDERFUL!
I am so blessed to have very supportive family and friends. MY HEART IS VERY HAPPY.
Thank you to Laura for spending the day with me at the mall and thank you to Aberdeen Mall for providing the opportunity for us to promote the Refuge.
Cheers!
