A VERY SAD DAY AT THE REFUGE

Bonnie is the lovely donkey on the front right

For those who may have wondered if the Refuge could get so large that we might lose the ability to love each and everyone one of our long-ears, the answer is Never. Each donkey that comes into our care is welcomed with open arms and with unconditional love.  It may take a few days to remember their names but it takes only a few moments for them to fill our hearts.
On Sunday, we lost Bonnie - a mammoth donkey with a soul as sweet and gentle as her name.  We all took her passing with such profound sadness. Our hearts went out to Rob who had to lay her to rest.  And to her former owner who had visited her only the day before.
Unfortunately, with the herds growing by leaps and bounds, death will become a more common occurrence.  It will never become easier to accept or deal with.  Nor should it.

We miss you Bonnie.
