We are dedicated to rehabilitating and caring for unwanted, surrendered, abused and neglected donkeys.
When donkeys are abused they require years of special care, costly vet and farrier work and years of love and devotion to heal the scars made by man. We are blessed to be able to facilitate this healing with love and care.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comBlogger222125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823426841602537185.post-64186999847637558522015-03-17T18:32:00.002-07:002015-03-17T18:32:24.292-07:00

Chris says:
Today was a lovely day as Laura and I got to spend some time with the donkeys at the new Refuge. The minis were all quite content and several of them looked very dapper in their plaid and animal spotted blankets. Laura gave each of the standard donkeys a good hug and scritches while I was in the office doing office stuff. Then I joined Laura and we ventured into Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823426841602537185.post-62813675355612183672015-01-08T09:19:00.001-08:002015-01-08T09:22:05.938-08:00Sweet Dreams Of Summer
This picture was taken on a warm sunny day last summer. Our little mini donkey Havanah had nodded off to sleep in her paddock and we are sure she was having lovely dreams about the yummy hay she would soon be having for supper. Alas, it is a snowy winter scene at the Refuge right now and little Havanah would be up to her tummy in snow if she wandered away from the areas that Rob has Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823426841602537185.post-90851530577630735352015-01-01T17:21:00.001-08:002015-01-01T17:21:39.971-08:00A loving review of the new donkeys/mule in the
order of their arrival at the Refuge in 2014. We opened our hearts and
home and worked very hard in 2014 to provide them with the peace and
security that they deserve which we are able to do through the very important assistance from You Our Donors. Happy New Year everyone. What a treat to see the donkeys indoors. All of them except Kiki who appeared to be enjoy some time to himself in the paddock. With lots of room to spare. Thanks to the excellent design of the barn, there is lots of light and protection from the wind, rain and snow. I remember when he and Annie arrived, and the first time I saw him.
They were up at the Max barn and I was excited, as always to see our newest residents. When I saw him for the first time my heart broke. There he was, leaning against the outside of the barn, looking like he could Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823426841602537185.post-68427770999067281682014-11-24T09:31:00.001-08:002014-11-24T09:31:35.344-08:00WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO READ ABOUT ON THE BLOG??Good Morning Everyone
This is me with the first donkey that I sponsored - Kiki
I have often wondered what you would like to know about with regards to the Refuge, our wonderful long-ears, and other donkey-related things.
I love to write about all things donkey and would love to respond to specific queries. Sara and Her Admirer Share A Very Special Moment
We were at the Refuge on Monday to try to figure out how to put cameras in the barn so we can watch them all the time. I can see a time in the future when all of us can go to the Refuge website, click on the webcam link and watch the donkeys in the barns 24/7. You can do that at the Donkey Sanctuary in Great Britain and it is Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823426841602537185.post-55825349880191925122014-11-14T14:51:00.003-08:002014-11-14T14:52:36.629-08:00Update on Mitch, Elf and MargheritaHi there
Quick update - Elf seems to be better, Mitch is on the mend and was out in the paddock being his "normal" manly self and Margherita seems to be working her way through it.
Good News All Round.

They look so adorable with their fuzzy winter coats. It is hard to recognize them individually as they look so different in their fancy winter attire.

I left Tom at the barns and headed to the office to collect items for the Carlin Hall craft sale. Tom was to get started in the paddock and I would catch up in a few Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823426841602537185.post-67678769504543505072014-11-04T19:24:00.001-08:002014-11-04T19:24:24.653-08:00Pictures As PromisedHere are a couple of pictures of Rob, John and Ashley unloading squares of hay. That is sooo much work. There will be three very sore bodies tonight! And they have just begun.

In a province with an abundance of fields and amazing weather that allows three crops in a season, there is a shortage of hay for sale. Our wonderful donkeys need hay that is not as rich as the hay for other equines and grass eaters. Why? Donkeys are desert creatures that are designed to eat scrub, bushes and other plants not Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823426841602537185.post-25935184696185172292014-10-31T10:06:00.000-07:002014-10-31T10:06:46.633-07:00QUALITY TIME AT THE REFUGE
Rosie this past summer - how pretty is she?
Yesterday was lovely at the Refuge. Shirley and I spent time discussing business (aka fundraising) and also formulated the upcoming AMAZING newsletter that will go out in mid-November. Little Sara and her sidekick LadyBug
My favorite day of the week is Thursday as I have designated it as my Quality Time Volunteer day when I keep my promise to myself to spend time with the donkeys. I get so wrapped up in the administrative end of the Refuge that I sometimes forget to treat myself to hugs and snuggles from my precious long-ears.

Every once in a while I see a "poster" on facebook that makes me think of the Refuge and the courage that it took to embark on a journey to rescue donkeys and provide for them a safe and healthy permanent home. Imagine when Rob and Shirley got baby Maximo and his ailing mother Maria. Do you think they could have even envisioned the day when they would be running a charity Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823426841602537185.post-35817634574910200922014-10-26T11:09:00.003-07:002014-10-26T11:09:43.564-07:00A SPECIAL LOOK AT OUR 2015 CALENDAR<!--[if gte mso 9]>

Lillie is without a doubt the sweetest, most loving donkey I know. She is tall and gentle, soft and cuddly and she makes you feel better just by being with her. Lillie is our therapy donkey.
